Walker at Hazel Ridge, the Treasure in Maplewood

One of the treasures of Maplewood is Hazelwood Park, a forested natural area with abundant wildlife, lush flora, and walking paths where visitors can appreciate this preserve. Walker at Hazel Ridge is immediately adjacent to the park and the building was thoughtfully designed with a large, accessible deck to allow their seniors to easily enjoy this treasure.

Through donations from citizens of Maplewood, family members, and residents, Walker at Hazel Ridge has recently had the resources to renovate and enhance the deck. New, comfortable furniture has been purchased that includes several glider rockers, end tables, and two larger tables, each with six chairs. This seating allows residents to dine outdoors with full wait staff service, if they choose.

Those enjoying the outdoors are often visited by deer, wild turkeys, a variety of birds, ducks, geese, and squirrels. Many find the deck a comfortable place to read a book, savor dessert and coffee, or bask in the summer sunshine and join with a neighbor for conversation.

The Ridge Room dining room, the center of activity at Hazel Ridge, has been remodeled with new cherry wood tables, comfortable new chairs, new carpet, and window treatments. All feature welcoming earth-toned colors to create a warm and relaxing atmosphere for dining. The adjacent community spaces are equally comfortable with new armchairs, carpeting, and special side tables. Enhancing these spaces is a variety of special artwork.

Our remodeled dining room and new deck furniture create special places to gather with family and friends. Residents are also encouraged to reserve these spaces for family parties or special events. The goal of updating Walker at Hazel Ridge is to encourage individuals to engage in living with the comfort of peaceful and inviting spaces.

Walker at Hazel Ridge is a very special community. Hazel Ridge offers senior living with services, a choice of large and maintenance-free apartments, delicious meals in the Ridge Room, transportation, housekeeping, and a full list of activities for every interest. A full range of services are available for those who need extra help with personal and health care.

Walker at Hazel Ridge Wii Bowling League for Residents
The Nintendo Wii is an exciting inter-active video game system. It is a fun and easy way to get some light exercise and socialize with others. Walker at Hazel Ridge residents have been really enjoying their Wii. The Wii and projection system were purchased through donations from the North High School Honor Society. On Wednesday afternoons, Walker at Hazel Ridge hosts bowling tournaments for residents, family members and North High School students. Their common area is turned into a virtual bowling alley, where the lanes are burned up with strikes and spares. It is easy to bowl with the motion sensitive controls. You swing your arm with the controller in hand, just like bowling a ball. Then you watch the screen to see how many pins have been knocked down. This video sports game offers stress-free exercise and a fun atmosphere for all.

Watch video about Walker at Hazel Ridge’s residents using the Wii for their bowling league games.
