The City of Lakes Consortium Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Center at Walker Methodist

Wonder. Enlightenment. Transformation.

The City of Lakes Consortium CPE Center at Walker Methodist educates spiritual caregivers through the living resource of relationship with patients, families, staff and community.

This accredited center, along with the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE), trains individuals from all walks of life to share and celebrate their variety of faith, beliefs and traditions to learn the art of pastoral care.

Spiritual care skills center on healing, wholeness and well-being. These talents are integrated into each student’s unique sense of pastoral identity. Action reflection learning in group and individual supervision is the source for learning in the areas of pastoral formation and reflection while gaining knowledge in pastoral care and ministry with older adults.

The City of Lakes Consortium CPE Center at Walker Methodist is non-denominational. Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhist, Native American Spirituality are just some of the traditions represented in City of Lakes alumni.

“The Wonder of the Human Spirit”

At City of Lakes, students learn from ACPE Supervisors and Board Certified Chaplains on ministry with older adults, persons suffering from dementia, end of life care and ritual care through mentoring, direct clinical work, and peer engagement.

Traditionally, pastoral education centers are set in hospitals. The City of Lakes CPE Center at Walker Methodist offers a unique setting – one that allows the student to:

  • Establish long term care-giving relationships
  • Engage unique aspects of crisis ministry; grief, loss and transition
  • Learn about self as minister in the worship and programmatic context
  • Experience the wonder of the enduring human spirit through wise older adults
  • Learn “in the moment” – an education process that is interpersonal as well as immediate
  • Gain a greater understanding of that which is “bigger than our bodies, minds, and circumstance”

CPE Program Description

One unit of CPE requires 400 hours of supervised clinical ministry (100 hrs classroom / 300 hrs clinical experience). City of Lakes offers two extended units of CPE a year; one in the fall and one in the winter/spring.
