Maria joined Walker Methodist in September of 2015 as a Life Enrichment Assistant at Walker Methodist Care Suites and moved to her current position in June of 2018.
She holds a BA in Psychology from Augsburg College, Paralegal Certificate from the Minnesota Paralegal Institute. Maria worked as an Executive Assistant for companies such as UnitedHealth Group, Fingerhut Corp., and the Voyageur Companies. In 2005, her sister passed away, leaving an 8-year-old daughter behind. So she left the workforce for a time to raise her niece (who is now 22 years old).
Maria's mother had Alzheimer’s disease and lived in a memory care unit. She spent a lot of time there and enjoyed spending time with her Mother and other residents. After her Mom passed away in 2015, Maria changed career course and applied for the Life Enrichment Assistant position at the Care Suites.
She is currently responsible for coordinating the day-to-day details for the Spiritual Life department, helping with logistics at Sunday morning worship, and being an accompanist for chapel services at the Care Suites and at the monthly Catholic Communion services.
Maria's passion for serving seniors fills her bucket. Her heart belongs to the memory care residents and she strives to make sure they are treated with dignity, invited to participate in activities and contribute their gifts, and find joy in each day.
