Letter from the president: Our promise

Scott Riddle | Mar 26, 2020

Dear residents, family, friends, and team members of Walker Methodist,

nurse holding resident's handAs more and more cases of COVID-19 are confirmed in Minnesota and Wisconsin, and more cases are appearing in senior communities, we want to be proactive in sharing with you what you can expect from us if a case appears in one of our communities.

First, please know that we love our residents and employees, and we care deeply about their health and wellbeing. Our residents truly are family to us, and we are doing all that we can to protect them and to help them through this time. And we are proud of our employees, who are working tirelessly to provide care in these uncertain times.

You know that we have put a number of restrictions in place, like restricting visitors into the building, screening employees daily before they are allowed to work, asking residents to stay in their apartments as much as possible. All of these restrictions can help in the fight, but they can be stressful and overwhelming, too.

That is why our team members are meeting with residents one-on-one every day, providing hallway dance parties using the 6-foot distancing rule, and working to find creative ways to keep residents engaged in conversations with the world outside. Social interactions are just as important to us as safety precautions, and we will continue working to enhance the lives of our residents.

Secondly, we want you to know that at this time, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in any of our communities, and we hope you will join us in praying that this continues. But if a case is found and confirmed in a Walker Methodist community, we promise to be open and forthright in our communication.

If a case is confirmed, we will notify residents in that community, family members who are named as the responsible party, and our employees. We will respect the privacy of all and will not release confidential information publicly. We will work directly with the Department of Health and cooperate fully by providing all the information they request.

Thirdly, we want you to know that our safety and infection control protocols are already in place, and isolation measures are ready to be deployed immediately if needed. If a resident does contract this illness, know that our team members will be by their side, making sure they are cared for and loved, just like family.

Lastly, we know that you may feel powerless against this force, but we hope you will remember that we are fighting with everything we’ve got to protect our residents and team members. Thank you for your unwavering support. We’re in this together, and we’ll get through it together.

God bless,

Scott Riddle,
President and CEO of Walker Methodist
