Director of Therapeutic Programs
Cathy started at Walker Methodist in January of 2009. She started out as a Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator, added the Volunteer Director, and then became the Director of Therapeutic Programs, which oversees Therapeutic Recreation and Volunteers. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Therapeutic Recreation with a minor in Aging and Adult Life from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. She also completed the Leading Age MN Leadership Academy in 2011.
As the Director of Therapeutic Programs, Cathy is in charge of her staff of 14, who works to create an ongoing program of activities for our residents. She also works on many committees and projects such as Integrative Care, which includes Aromatherapy and Music and Memory. Professionally, Cathy is most passionate about changing the outside perception of nursing homes, and to make them be a place we WANT to live in when we get older. A place people are comfortable and happy to bring their loved ones to.
Outside of work, Cathy is most passionate about her daughter, who was born on September 10, 2011. She and her husband are the light of Cathy’s life. She also enjoys yoga, volleyball, reading, watching reality TV, and going out for happy hour with her girlfriends. If she can, she also loves to volunteer with activities in her daughter’s preschool.
At the end of the day, Cathy would like to be remembered as someone who always tries to bring the best out in people. One who always brought happiness to people.
