Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How does the virtual race work?

Can’t make the race in person? Virtual is the option for you.  Virtual participants will receive a race box in the mail ahead of race day. Virtual participants can choose to walk or run their own distance anywhere they wish (the option to upload times will be available). Or, a virtual participant can simply enjoy the contents of the race box while supporting older adults!

Sign up by May 24 to guarantee delivery of your race packet by race day. Virtual race registrations will be accepted through race day; however, packets may not arrive by race day if registration is received after May 24.

Where does the race start?

Both races begin on the road next to the Lake Harriet Bandshell parking lot. Look for the banners. The announcer will begin asking runners and walkers to line up approximately 10 minutes prior to race start. The 10k starts at 9 a.m. and the 5k starts at 9:05 a.m.

Can I use a jogging stroller?

Yes. We ask people with strollers to start in the back for both races to avoid any mishaps.

Are there water stations?

Yes. There are two water stations: one at Minnehaha/Lake Harriet parkways and one at the finish line. For runners and walkers of both races, this means there will be a water stop approximately every 1.5 miles. Bottled water is available after the race as well.

When and where is race packet pickup?

Packet pick up starts at 8 a.m. on race day. Early pick up time and location will be announced in April.

When is the last date to register?

Online registration is available until the Friday before race day. On-site registration begins at 8 a.m. on race day near the bandshell. (We cannot guarantee that your preferred race t-shirt size will be available on race day.)

What is the cost?

$45 for 5k participants and $50 for 10k runners. Cost increases $5 on race day. For email updates, including promo codes, email race@walkermethodist.org

In the event the race is shortened or cancelled, all entry fees are nonrefundable.

  • Parking

Two pay parking lots are available near the Bandshell at the north end of Lake Harriet. Parking lots will close around 8:30 a.m. to stop automobile traffic on the race course. Free parking is available on Lake Harriet Parkway or on any of the streets near the lake. Please watch and follow neighborhood parking signs. Carpooling is encouraged.

  • Race Course

The 5k and 10k routes start at the stop sign at the north end of the Bandshell parking lot. The 5k races do one complete loop around the lake in a counter-clockwise direction. The 10k racers do two loops around the lake on the low road. Both races will end at the water pump near the Bandshell. Each mile will be marked.
