Dear Walker Methodist family,
As you probably know already, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers extended that Safer At Home order to May 27. In Minnesota, the Stay At Home order lasts until May 4, but it is unclear whether it will be extended.
For senior communities, this is a particularly difficult announcement to hear. We know that this time of social distancing has been hard on everyone, and it has been especially hard on our residents, who are living with the strictest restrictions.
We know the coronavirus is dangerous, but we also know that the solutions put in place to keep people safe can actual contribute to other health problems. Research has shown that loneliness and isolation place people at increased risk for high blood pressure, heart disease, depression, a weakened immune system, and more.
Our team members are working hard to ensure that residents are not alone. Our life enrichment activities have shifted from group activities to one-on-one interactions. We are also doing everything we can to help families connect with residents. It is thrilling to see families talking with their loved one at windows, sending cards, and having phone calls. If you need any assistance staying connected, our team is happy to help facilitate video conferencing.
