ANNE MCFAUL REID is a sculptor and painter. She graduated from Minneapolis College of Art & Design (MCAD) with a degree in fine art, and has since shown and sold her artwork throughout the country. Participants will engage in creative, in-depth projects that integrate the arts with science, math, engineering, and/or other topics that best meet each site’s goals. During a residency or workshop, each participant will experience art, understand the art form, create art, and connect this art-making experience with other parts of their lives.
Anne is continually amazed and inspired by the natural world. In this class, participants will draw upon their own experiences in nature and in doing so create a landscape, bird painting, or any nature inspired work. Participants will learn basic painting techniques, including brushwork and color mixing. This landscape can come from memories, places you’ve been or places you have always wanted to visit.
SHAKUN MAHESHWARI is a visual artist who works in many genres. She began her artistic life in her native India, learning traditional folk arts from her mother and aunties. With formal art training in graphic design, photography and various other mediums, she has enhanced her background and teaching methods. Shakun uses her folk art background to make connections with other cultures and is dedicated to teaching all students the creative process. Maheshwari went to North Hennepin Community College and completed a graphic design program. While there, she expanded her knowledge of oil painting in different mediums—acrylics, pastel, watercolor pen and ink and print making (wood cut, monoprinting) . Her work has been exhibited various places. She also enjoys the art of photography.
Learn about Indian culture, history, and celebrations through art. We will be exploring the uses of temporary art, or art made from chalk, sand, rice flour or henna. Residency projects may include Rangoli, Mandalas, or Henna. Rangoli designs are a temporary floor art that people create and redo on a daily basis in India in order to bring good luck and happiness to the home. Create stylized rangoli designs with flour or colored sand, which can be displayed temporarily or transferred to paper. For instance, colored sand can be “painted” to make a Mandala on paper. Students may learn how to create traditional Indian designs and use henna for body decoration. Henna is a plant known for its reddish color and is used to decorate the
body for special occasions such as Indian weddings and celebrations. In impermanent art, creating the art is more important than the art itself.

Servant Leadership Trait: Striving for Excellence Every Day
I have spent over 25 years in the medical profession and have a sincere compassion for taking care of others and making sure that their needs are met.
I have a passion for working with the senior population and helping them live with dignity and purpose. Because of this, and my background, I am proud to be the Executive Director for Walker Methodist’s Levande Community. My background includes a bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration from Concordia St. Paul, I completed the Senior Care and Leadership Management Program at Bethel University, I am a LNHA and LALD, and also worked as an Orthopedic Physician Assistant for 10 years, as well as a representative for a total knee and hip replacement company (Zimmer and DePuy). In my spare time, you can find me Salmon fishing on Lake Michigan, golfing, coaching football, or spending time with family. I have been married for 35 years, my wife is a registered nurse, and we have 4 exceptional children. I enjoy working closely with the awesome team at the Levande Community. I feel that I have the knack of looking outside the box to solve problems, and what excites me about my work is the opportunity to improve each day and make a difference in the lives of those we serve in our community, including the families.
Servant leadership trait: Always ready to help answer questions
Growing up talking about farming with neighbors, playing 500 with my aging parents, and shaking hands with their friends prepared me for a career in senior living. I’ve worked in healthcare since 2003, and I’m grateful to be working somewhere that shares my values: care, respect, and service. I’ve had the honor of being part of the Levande team since our community opened in 2017.
Most days, I connect with local businesses, chambers, and community members to build relationships. I love helping others on their senior living journey as they search for the right place to call home. As the go-to person for others navigating world of senior living, I also provide resources for those thinking ahead and love building trusting relationships. When new residents move in, I coordinate with the leadership team to ensure a smooth, easy transition. Whatever I do, I strive to lessen stress and offer a listening ear.
In 2019, I participated in Walker’s leadership development program and have also received Partners in Excellence (PIE) awards. As a board member at the Allina Foundation at Cambridge Medical Center, I love being part of a close-knit community.
In my free time, I enjoy being with my husband, son, and our extended families. During summer, we rest and relax on the lake. I also love to spend time with friends, explore different cities, and try new restaurants.
I earned my associates degree in natural health and my bachelor's degree in nursing.
Servant leadership trait: Creating opportunities for others to try new things
Ever since I was young, I have always been drawn to the older adults in my life. Privileged to know my great-grandparents, I also spent hours doing my grandmother’s hair after I obtained my cosmetology license. So, when I joined the Levande team in 2018, I found myself bonding with the residents quickly.
With more than 13 years of experience as a dietary aide and housekeeping manager, I now bring engaging activities and programs to residents as the director of life enrichment. Finding new ways to keep our seniors interested and engaged is my passion. I enjoy seeing residents do things they enjoy: music, games, arts and crafts, gardening, movies, reading, getting manicures, attending spiritual life programs, fishing, going out to eat, and more.
On my team, I am known for improvising and thinking outside the box. Making sure our residents feel safe to try something new is important to me, and I strive to earn their trust. To see residents feel at home and happy here warms my heart. I feel fulfilled when I hear residents laughing and having a good time.
When I am not working, you can find me and my family enjoying time with each other on our lake home, fishing, kayaking, lounging, grilling out, and having bonfires.
In 2020, I graduated from Leading Age Minnesota’s Leadership Academy.
Servant leadership trait: Helping others reach their full potential
With more than 25 years of experience in foodservice and more than a decade in senior living, I joined the team at Levande in 2021.
My day-to-day responsibilities include purchasing supplies, planning menus, coordinating and leading our culinary team, and hosting special events. Known for my back-of-house expertise, I truly enjoy working with our cooks to make residents happy. I am passionate about training our team members and offering our services to the Cambridge community.
When I’m not at work, I can be found fishing, hunting, and archery. I have a wonderful son named John.
Servant leadership trait: Building strong relationships
I’ve been involved in the world of senior living since I was in third grade (really!). My school offered a pen pal program with the local senior community, and when I met my pen pal, I knew older adults were special. That summer, I started volunteering whenever I could. When I was old enough, I got a job as a dietary aide and haven’t looked back.
Before I joined the Walker team in 2020, I worked as an aide and education nurse in senior living for almost a decade. Now, as director of health services, I supervise resident assistants and nurses, empowering them to do their jobs well. Working closely with residents and families, I provide insight about care plans, care needs, and more. I’ve also helped roll out our updated Kaleidoscope memory care program. With a passion for building strong connections with those around me, I love that my job allows me to help others.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family. My husband and I have two daughters, and you can often find us four-wheeling or tending our fruit, vegetable, and flower gardens.
I received my nursing degree from Rasmussen College – Mankato.
Servant leadership trait: Taking initiative and encouraging others to join
I joined the team at Levande in 2021. I am honored to help the older adults in our community and hear their wisdom and stories. I have the opportunity to work in a positive environment and learn each day.
On a day-to-day basis, I do everything from changing lightbulbs to vacuuming, painting, and plumbing. I also locate supplies for other departments, order supplies, and other administrative responsibilities. On our team, I am known for finding solutions to tough problems. I like to help people find practical resolutions to challenges.
When I’m not at work, I spend my time with my wife. We enjoy being with our five grandchildren and watching their activities, including volleyball, basketball, soccer, dance, and theater.
I have training in many environmental services areas, including HVAC, boilers, electrical, refrigeration, and more.
Servant leadership trait: Seeing potential in others
I believe in people. When someone says, “I can’t exercise because...” – it’s my passion to help them realize they can. Whether it’s finding the right exercises, modifying a movement, or creating an alternative option, I’m here to help people live happy, healthy lives. I’ve worked with Walker since 2017 and joined the team at Levande in 2021.
In our fitness center, I provide a safe, clean, and friendly exercise environment. I offer personal training sessions, lead group classes, and help new members with fitness assessments, goals, and orientation. I also love to teach members about exercise, equipment, and fitness. My day is made when someone tells me they are feeling stronger and more confident, have less pain, or are simply feeling good.
When I’m not working, you can find me exploring with my family. We love hiking, being outside, and learning about new places.
I earned my degree in education. I am also a certified personal trainer (CPT) and senior fitness specialist through the National Council for Certified Personal Trainers (NCCPT).
Servant leadership trait: Showing empathy and considering others first
Coming from a very intergenerational family, I have seen firsthand what it means to care for someone with respect and dignity. My grandparents (and both great-grandmas) helped raise me, and I was honored to help return that care for them when they needed it. With five years of experience as a social worker, I joined the Levande team in 2021.
On a daily basis, I arrange and lead resident-family meetings. Listening to concerns, I work toward finding the best possible solution. I also oversee pendants and stations, as well as supply orders for those with elderly waiver. I also love to help residents with various needs, from sorting mail to helping with TV problems or ordering groceries. I’m honored to get to know residents and become a part of their lives. I come to work knowing I can make a difference every day. Known for being organized and efficient, I am passionate about communicating well and making sure others are heard.
When I’m not at work, I can spend time with my husband, son, and daughter. We have a golden retriever, Oakley, and two cats named Lewis and Fitzgerald. I also enjoy yoga and fitness. My husband and I are the executive and youth pastors at our church, where I serve by investing in students.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in social work from North Central University. I am a licensed social worker in the state of Minnesota.
